Casablanca Region Approves $280 Million Plan for 930 New Buses

The Regional Council of Casablanca-Settat has validated an important partnership agreement project for the financing of urban bus transport. This convention, which will apply from 2025 to 2029, defines the modalities for the implementation of a new contractual model of delegated management, involving the various local authorities in the region.

The investment in this project lies in the acquisition of 930 new buses, which will circulate in the cities of Casablanca, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, Settat and El Jadida. In addition to the vehicles, the program includes the installation of operating assistance and passenger information systems (SAEIV), modern ticketing systems, as well as the development of depots, bus stops and maintenance centers.

The total cost of this project amounts to 2.8 billion dirhams. The financing is largely provided by the Ministry of the Interior, with a contribution from the Casablanca-Settat regional council of 933 million dirhams.

This regional initiative is part of the national program for the modernization of the bus transport service, launched by the Ministry of the Interior. This program, with a total budget of nearly 11 billion dirhams, aims to equip at least 37 delegating authorities with more than 3,700 new buses.

The main objective is to improve the quality of public transport services and ensure their sustainability. The new management model also aims to strengthen the role of the delegating authorities vis-à-vis the delegatees.
