French Firm Colas Wins $430 Million Contracts for Morocco’s High-Speed Rail Extension

The French group Colas has been awarded three major contracts worth a total of 4.7 billion dirhams (430 million euros) as part of the project to extend the high-speed line connecting Kénitra to Marrakech.
The National Railway Office (ONCF) had launched a call for tenders for the selection of the executing companies for this mega project aimed at modernizing and extending Morocco’s rail network, in preparation for the 2030 World Cup that the kingdom is jointly organizing with Spain and Portugal.
The first contract was won by Les Grands Travaux Routiers (GTR), Colas’ Moroccan subsidiary. It relates to the third lot of civil engineering works and its cost is estimated at nearly 1.9 billion dirhams (180 million euros).
As for the second contract, it was awarded to Colas Rail, another entity of the French group. It concerns the design and construction of the railways, overhead cable systems and power conversion stations, for an amount of 2.1 billion dirhams (200 million euros).
Colas’ third contract concerns the second lot of the project relating to surface infrastructure and civil engineering works on the operating tracks, worth 530 million dirhams (50 million euros). The Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed line extension project aims to strengthen connectivity between major Moroccan cities, improve mobility and reduce travel times.
