Northern Morocco: The Gendarmerie solves a violent murder and arrests 14 traffickers

The Royal Gendarmerie of Nador arrested the main suspect of a shooting murder committed near Al Aroui on Thursday. The operation also led to the dismantling of a drug trafficking network involving around fifteen people.

The elements of the judicial brigade proceeded to arrest the alleged perpetrator of a homicide by firearm that recently occurred on the outskirts of the city of Al Aroui. This arrest is the result of coordination between the regional command of Nador and the company of Zaïo, mobilized to elucidate the circumstances of this violent crime that shook the province.

Beyond the resolution of the murder, the investigations uncovered a vast case of organized crime. The dragnet led to the arrest of about 14 individuals suspected of direct links to the trafficking of hard drugs. The subsequent searches allowed the seizure of quantities of cocaine as well as five vehicles specifically used for the transportation and marketing of narcotics.

These interventions mark a toughening of the fight against drug trafficking networks in the eastern region. The authorities are now working to establish the precise connections between the initial homicide and the illicit activities of the group, in order to determine whether the motive for the crime is linked to a settling of scores against the backdrop of trafficking.

All the accused have been taken into custody for the purposes of the investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. They will soon have to answer before the courts for the charges of homicide and drug trafficking, while the investigations continue to dismantle all the ramifications of this network.
