Le Jardin des Douars, nestled in the hills near Essaouira, ranks eighth in a list of the 33 most beautiful hotels in the world compiled by Time Out. It is also the highest-ranked establishment in Africa.
The global ranking was published on 28 August by Time Out. The Moroccan establishment was highlighted again on Tuesday, 8 September, in a selection devoted to the five African hotels included in this ranking.

Ranked eighth worldwide, Le Jardin des Douars is particularly praised for its “earthy, boho” style, its earth-and-straw architecture, its inner courtyards and its gardens.
Gardens at the heart of the ranking
Located in Douar Sidi Yassine, in the hills of Essaouira, the hotel had already received five stars during a previous visit by the magazine. Its gardens were then presented as one of its main assets, with their palms, cacti, aloes and bougainvilleas spread across terraces overlooking an arid landscape.
The establishment has 19 rooms, six suites and six private villas set amid two hectares of botanical gardens. It also has two swimming pools, a hammam and a spa.
The ranking is not based on an online readers’ vote. The editorial team specifies that each of the 33 selected hotels was visited by one of its journalists, editors or hospitality specialists, while acknowledging the necessarily subjective nature of such a ranking.
