Morocco’s World Cup Hero Amrabat Reflects on Team’s Historic Run

Back at Fiorentina after his journey at the World Cup, and after digesting his failed transfer to Barcelona, Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat spoke about Morocco’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar.
Even if Morocco’s journey was one of the surprises of the World Cup, it is the result of hard work, the will of an entire team, according to Sofyan Amrabat. "We worked very hard and showed combativeness and a great team spirit," the player said in an interview with Europa Conference League.
For the Moroccan international, with this record, Morocco has become better known in the world. "It was great to be able to make so many people happy all over the world, we saw scenes of joy in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, and of course in Morocco."
From this adventure in Qatar, the midfielder only retains good things, even if his teammates and him would have liked to climb onto the podium. He says he is happy to have been able to help restore confidence to Africans, Moroccans and to have helped raise African football on the world stage.
Upon his return from Qatar, Sofyan Amrabat was the subject of strong criticism. Fiorentina supporters were disappointed not to find the energetic player who won almost all his confrontations. "I know I always give my best on the pitch. I do my best to help the team win. When I look at myself in the mirror after the game, I know I’ve given everything. I always do my best, and you can’t ask for more, that’s why I don’t feel the pressure."
