Morocco Women’s Team Edges Closer to Paris 2024 with 2-0 Win Over Namibia
The Moroccan women’s national football team won 2-0 against Namibia. This victory, obtained at the large stadium in Marrakech on Thursday, is part of the qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Atlas Lionesses dominated the Namibians from the start of this confrontation, thus marking the first match under the leadership of the new Spanish coach, Vilda Rodriguez. The latter was recently appointed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, succeeding Reynald Pedros whose contract was not renewed.
The Moroccans opened the scoring in the 20th minute thanks to a goal by Nesryne El Chad. The match then balanced out, with the Namibians trying to equalize, while the Lionesses pushed to double their lead. Despite several attempts on both sides, the first half ended with a narrow one-goal lead for the Moroccans.
The second half saw the Namibian players try to restore the balance, but the Moroccan team persisted in their offensives, seeking this liberating second goal. In the 78th minute, their perseverance paid off, with Anissa Lahmari increasing the score.
The match ended with a deserved victory for the Atlas Lionesses with a score of two goals to zero. They now have to prepare the return match, decisive for qualification, scheduled for Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan sports complex.
