Morocco: Here’s why the trial of the Algerian influencer was postponed

Sentenced in the first instance on January 19 to three months in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams, Raouf Belkacemi is being prosecuted for public indecency and statements contrary to good morals. The events took place in Rabat during the match between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the 2025 CAN. The supporter had himself broadcast live images showing him urinating in the stadium stands, while also uttering insults.

Arrested for the first time and then released, he was definitively arrested after the broadcast of videos deemed hateful and immoral. This case adds to that of another Algerian supporter, sentenced in Marrakech to eight months in prison for tearing up a Moroccan banknote. The latter faces a minimum sentence of two years when he appears before the Court of Appeal, given the seriousness of the act.
