Several localities in the province are suffering from successive interruptions in drinking water supply, worsened by rising temperatures and increased demand during summer. Residents say they can no longer carry out basic tasks such as drinking, cooking or washing.

Anger has spread among Moroccans from abroad who returned to the region for a few weeks. Among them is Ahmed Marcouch, mayor of Arnhem in the Netherlands, and originally from Bouyafar. In a letter addressed to the company responsible for water distribution in Nador, he denounces recurring cuts without prior notice or explanation.

"We are seriously considering shortening our vacation"

The elected official recalls that bills are paid year-round, while families living abroad only enjoy their property for a short period. "We find ourselves deprived of the most basic right: water," he writes in the letter reviewed by Hespress.

Ahmed Marcouch states that his family is now considering leaving before the end of their stay. His ten-year-old son reportedly told him he no longer wants to return to the region, a reaction he finds particularly painful.

Beyond his personal case, he describes a difficulty affecting all residents of Bouyafar. He demands the immediate restoration of normal water flow, precise explanations about the cause of the interruptions and measures to prevent their recurrence.
