Agadir Region Residents Raise Alarm Over Drinking Water Quality After Supply Disruptions

Residents of the cities of Agadir, Inezgane, Ait Melloul, Dcheira, and Laqliaa have complained about the quality of drinking water supplied in recent weeks by the RAMSA water company.
Many residents claim to have noticed a sudden change in the color and taste of the drinking water, fearing for their health. This change occurred after repeated cuts in drinking water in several neighborhoods of Greater Agadir, they add.
In a written question to the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, the deputy of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Hassan Oumribte, sought to know the measures his department is taking or intends to take to put an end to these untimely drinking water cuts in the Agadir region and restore the connection with the seawater desalination plant located in the province of Chtouka Ait Baha.
The MP recalled that last September, the residents of Agadir and the neighboring regions suffered from recurrent drinking water cuts due to a technical breakdown on the main canal connecting the desalination plant and the city’s distribution network.
According to the RAMSA agency, these cuts are due to the lack of rainfall and a severe water shortage at the dams supplying the Greater Agadir area, as well as a breakdown in the production facilities of the National Office of Electricity and Water. The agency assures that all measures are being taken to return the situation to normal.
