Morocco: Violent clashes near Inezgane

Urban violence broke out on Saturday, November 16 in Lqliâa, a town about 20 kilometers from Agadir. Nearly 150 people from sub-Saharan Africa were involved in these incidents, requiring the intervention of the security forces.
It all started with the assault of a resident of the town, also from sub-Saharan Africa, by two individuals. Seriously injured in the head, he was taken to the hospital. The Royal Gendarmerie has opened an investigation to find the assailants.
The situation escalated a little later when a group of about 150 people invaded the public highway, blocking traffic and throwing stones at the residents. The Inezgane prosecutor’s office stated that homes, motorists and the security forces were also targeted during these unusually violent clashes.
Faced with this situation, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces and the law enforcement agents were deployed to disperse the troublemakers. Two suspects were arrested and the search continues to identify the other participants.
