Morocco Upgrades Air Bases for $4 Billion F-16 Viper Jet Acquisition

Morocco is active in preparing for the reception of 25 American F-16 VIPER combat aircraft manufactured by the American group Lockheed Martin. In this regard, extension and upgrade works have been launched at the military bases of Benguerir and Benslimane.
Morocco is about to receive 25 latest-generation F-16 VIPER fighter jets, the sale of which was approved in 2019 by the United States for an amount of $4 billion, reports Hespress. Initially scheduled for 2024, the delivery of these aircraft will not be effective until between 2025 and 2027. In the meantime, Morocco has concluded agreements with American companies to equip the air force bases of Benslimane and Benguerir. These are the facilities and support infrastructure, including flight simulators, as well as secure storage warehouses (SSF), among others, it is specified.
To recall, Washington had also approved the modernization of the 23 F-16s that the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces already possess, for an amount of $983 million. These aircraft will be equipped with state-of-the-art electronic systems.
