Morocco Unveils Strategy for Military Industrial Zones to Boost Defense Sector

Morocco, which is working to materialize its ambition to develop a robust defense industry, is in the process of developing a vision focused on the creation of industrial zones specialized in the military industries. This emerges from the presentation by the Delegate Minister in charge of Administration, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Abdellatif Loudiyi, of the budget of his department before the Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccans Residing Abroad at the House of Representatives. He assured that firm measures have been taken in favor of the creation of such zones aimed at establishing an advanced defense industry and attracting foreign investments, reports Hespress.

Already, several agreements aimed at strengthening the equipment of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have been signed. Many companies wish to invest in the military sector in Morocco. The kingdom has taken constant measures to set up an advanced defense industry, concluding partnerships and agreements following the entry into force of Law No. 10.20 relating to defense equipment, explained the minister. According to the official, this initiative will allow Morocco to play a significant role in economic development, to gradually achieve independence in the field of the defense industry and to benefit from the transfer of advanced technologies, while attracting foreign investments and creating new jobs.

A group of specialized companies has submitted requests for investment authorization in the field of defense industries. Specific technical, economic, legal and technological criteria have been defined for the selection of companies. Morocco thus intends to create long-term value.
