Morocco Unveils Ambitious Plan to Boost Defense Industry with Specialized Industrial Zones

The Moroccan government is giving the Housing and Military Equipment Agency (ALEM) and the company MEDZ, a subsidiary of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), a free hand to create a joint company dedicated to the planning, development and management of industrial zones specialized in the defense sector.
Morocco is accelerating the development of its defense industry. A decree published in the Official Bulletin on June 9 formalizes the creation of a company called "Société de Gestion des Zones Industrielles de Défense", the result of a partnership between the Housing and Military Equipment Agency (ALEM) and the company MEDZ, a subsidiary of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG). This company has an initial capital of 300,000 dirhams, subscribed in equal parts by the two partners. Its main mission: to design, develop, market and manage industrial zones specifically dedicated to defense industry activities.
The establishment of these specific industrial zones should not only provide Morocco with suitable infrastructure to host and support the development of the defense industry, in a context marked by a desire to strengthen industrial and security sovereignty, but it should also attract high-level technological investments, in synergy with the kingdom’s ambitions in terms of advanced industrialization, according to Le Matin.
