Morocco Boosts Defense Budget to $12.4 Billion, Plans Major Military Expansion

The budget of the Moroccan Ministry of National Defense is expected to reach 124.7 billion dirhams next year, according to the 2024 Finance Bill (PLF). A budget up about 5 billion dirhams from 2023.
The bulk of this budget, nearly 121 billion dirhams, will be allocated to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and will be used primarily for the acquisition of weapons and military equipment, according to the 2024 PLF. This line has recorded an increase of about 5 billion compared to 2023 where an amount of 116 billion dirhams was dedicated to strengthening and modernizing the army.
The 2024 National Defense budget also provides for the recruitment of 7,000 agents to strengthen the workforce of the FAR as well as their operational capabilities. A significant portion of this budget will also be devoted to the development of the military industry, in close collaboration with the United States, it is specified.
