Morocco Unveils New Measures to Strengthen Jewish Community Governance

David Toledano, a member of the Moroccan Jewish community and president of the Federation of Construction Materials Industries, welcomed the decree organizing the Jewish communities, saying that this text is "exceptional [and] largely meets expectations."

The decree published in the official bulletin on November 3 will ensure effective and harmonious management of the communities throughout the national territory. To this end, the text provides for the creation of a system composed of three bodies, namely: the National Council of the Jewish Community, the Commission of Moroccan Jews Abroad, and the Foundation of Moroccan Judaism, recalls Medias24.

According to the provisions of the decree, these bodies must be installed within 12 months of its publication in the official bulletin. The objective is to modernize the organization of the Moroccan Jewish community, safeguard its heritage and preserve its culture, but also to consolidate the ties of Moroccan Jews with their country of origin.

When questioned about this legal framework, David Toledano declared that "this exceptional text goes far beyond the expectations of the community. It has been welcomed around the world. First and foremost by our community."

The creation of these bodies, according to the official, "offers a new architecture and new guidelines through clear texts on the governance of the Jewish community in all its aspects." And he added that "the situation was more or less frozen and lacked change and new perspectives."
