Israel Inaugurates Research Center Honoring Moroccan Jewish Heritage

The Israeli authorities inaugurated, on Wednesday in El’ad, the center for research on the heritage of Moroccan Judaism. A ceremony during which the late Mohammed V was celebrated for his many actions in favor of the Jewish community in Morocco.
It was in the presence of a host of Moroccan and Israeli personalities that this center was inaugurated. Addressing the guests present, former Israeli ambassador to France and the UN, Yehouda Lancry, paid tribute to the memory of Mohammed V. He stressed that the history of Judaism is closely linked to the late king, who was at the forefront of "the protection of Jews, as well as the specificity of Morocco as a land of tolerance, peace, understanding and coexistence between religions".
He also highlighted "the exceptional efforts" that King Mohammed VI continues to make to protect Moroccan Jewish culture. As proof, "the consecration of the Hebrew component in the Moroccan constitution, the implementation of vast restoration programs for Jewish historical sites and the creation of museums of Hebrew heritage".
The opening ceremony of the center for research on the heritage of Moroccan Judaism was marked by the presentation of the book "Kings of Mercy and Goodness", by Haim Levy, which recounts the history of the Alaouite dynasty and its relationship with the Jewish community.
