Morocco Unveils Ambitious Stadium Plans for 2030 World Cup Bid

As part of a joint bid between Morocco, Spain and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup, the president of the Moroccan bidding committee, Faouzi Lekjaa, has outlined the Kingdom’s vision to modernize its sports facilities and meet international standards.
According to Faouzi Lekjaa, who is also president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), this modernization includes the renovation of five existing stadiums and the construction of a new large stadium in Casablanca (Benslimane), an idea that has long been a dream on paper. The latter should have a capacity of 93,000 seats, making it a centerpiece of the Moroccan project.
During an initial meeting with the ministries involved in this candidacy, Lekjaa highlighted the ongoing work on Morocco’s sports infrastructure, particularly the rehabilitation of the stadiums in Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Rabat and Tangier. All this with a view to improving the quality of the country’s sports facilities, in order to host major international events, such as the 2030 World Cup.
The leader also stressed the importance of the joint candidacy declared by King Mohammed VI in March, both from a civilizational and cultural point of view. For Lekjaa, all the stakeholders involved are determined to present a solid and complete file, to make the organization of the 2030 World Cup a reality for the Moroccan people.
