Morocco’s U17 Women’s Team Clinches Historic World Cup Berth in Dramatic Shootout

2022 will remain a historic year for Moroccan football. After the qualification of the Atlas Lions for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, it is now the turn of the U17 women’s national team to qualify for the World Cup to be held in India.
The Lionesses of the Atlas had promised to snatch the qualification for the World Cup, and they did. While they had been beaten in the first leg (2-0), they managed to turn the situation around by winning the return leg against Ghana (2-0). A victory snatched with difficulty which allowed the Moroccans to reset the counter and be able to go to the fateful penalty shootout which they won convincingly (4 to 2).
Before this last qualifying round, Morocco had faced Niger, which it had corrected in the first and second legs. With this qualification snatched against Ghana, the Lionesses take one of the tickets allocated to the African continent and thus join Nigeria and Cameroon. The U17 Women’s World Cup will be held in India from October 11 to 30, 2022.
