Morocco Tourism Surges: Over 7.5 Million Visitors in First Half of 2019

A good tourist year for Morocco. In July, the figures showed a clear progression compared to last year. Whether it is foreign tourists or Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), there is a real enthusiasm for the Moroccan destination.
More than 7.544 million tourists visited Morocco from January to July 2019. All the main source markets showed significant increases during this period, in particular, Italy (+13%), France (+10%), Spain (+9%), Germany (+9%), Belgium (+9%), the Netherlands (+8%) and the United Kingdom (+8%), according to figures from the Observatory, in its latest note on tourism statistics in Morocco.
The total overnight stays recorded in classified tourist accommodation establishments, for their part, recorded a 6% increase at the end of July, with the lion’s share for Marrakech and Agadir which generated 57% of the total overnight stays between January and July.
For the month of July 2019 alone, the number of tourists arriving at border posts increased by 13% compared to July 2018. Geographically, the Oujda and Saïdia destination recorded an increase of +18% in terms of overnight stays, followed by Tangier (+11%), Casablanca (+10%), Marrakech (+8%) and Al Haouz (+4%).
