Morocco Tops List for French Visas in 2020, Surpassing China Amid Pandemic

Morocco tops the list of countries whose citizens have received the most French visas in 2020, according to the latest statistics from the French Ministry of the Interior. Despite the lockdown and the closure of borders, France issued more than 98,000 visas to Moroccans who have stolen the limelight from the Chinese.
In 2019, more than 346,000 Moroccans benefited from visas, almost 4 times more than in 2018, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. They are followed by the Russians who obtained some 78,000 visas in 2020 against more than 486,000 in 2019.
With the coronavirus pandemic and its corollaries, this first place, often occupied by China, has been taken over by Moroccans. The quota of visas allocated to the Chinese, heavily impacted by Covid-19, has been reduced, thus propelling the Moroccans to the first place.
This reduction in the visa quota has affected several European countries, including France. In the hexagon, the number of visas granted has fallen by nearly 80% in one year. It went from 3.5 million in 2019 to only 712,311 in 2020.
