Morocco Leads in French Student Visa Applications, Followed by Algeria and Senegal

Moroccans top the list of student visa applicants in France. They are followed by Algeria and Senegal.
With 15,448 applications, Moroccans rank first among countries applying for study visas in France in 2020, according to data from Campus France. Compared to 2019, the number of applications has decreased by 16%. The kingdom is followed by Algeria (11,405) study visa applications, a decrease of 8% compared to 2019, and Senegal (789 study visa applications).
Morocco ranks 3rd in terms of application files submitted for the 2020 academic year. In total, 25,818 application files were submitted, an increase of 19% compared to 2019. In this ranking, the kingdom is behind Algeria (1st, with 31,269 application files, up 5% compared to 2019) and Senegal (2nd, with 27,231 application files, an increase of 40% compared to 2019).
France is the sixth host country and also the sixth country of origin for students, particularly to French-speaking countries (Canada, Belgium and Switzerland), the Campus France press release states. As for the moderate decline in the number of students this year (-25%), the agency explains that it is the result of the voluntary and joint action of the government and the institutions. "The latter have confirmed their willingness to welcome more and in good conditions the students of the world," it added.
