Morocco Tops Global Ranking for Renewable Energy Investment Appeal

Morocco is the world number one in renewable energy according to the latest ranking of the biannual RECAI (Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index) report.
This index provides an overview of the attractiveness in the renewable energy sector around the world. In a context where the electricity market is in full mutation and energy prices are soaring, this new edition of the RECAI includes for the first time a normalized ranking with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Thus, according to the new ranking called the normalized RECAI, Morocco has become the world champion of renewable energy. To occupy this rank, the Kingdom has been able to take advantage of its geographical characteristics to integrate flexibility into its electricity production system, the report indicates.
"The installed renewable energy capacity has exceeded 5 GW, representing major growth over the past two decades, as capacity was 1.2 GW in 2000. Morocco aims to double its production capacity by 2030 to reach 12 GW," the index authors explained. "The country hopes to achieve its goals through technological development in the field of energy, storage, green hydrogen and the reduction of renewable energy costs," they added.
Moreover, Morocco has been ranked among the top five countries in the world by the International Renewable Energy Agency for the potential to produce competitive green hydrogen. "With 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, solar energy is currently the largest source of renewable energy," it is specified.
