Morocco’s Top Security Chief Honored by Spain for Counter-Terrorism Efforts

Described as the "Guardian of the Kingdom", the head of the DGSN and the DGST, Abdellatif Hammouchi, has been distinguished three times in a row by Spanish diplomacy, for the roles played in the fight against terrorism, both at the national and regional levels.
In response to a question from a member of the Spanish parliament, the government published an official statement detailing the reasons justifying the distinction of the head of the DGST with the medal of merit of the Red Cross.
The award of the medal of merit last year came at the initiative of the Spanish Guardia Civil, and in recognition of Hammouchi’s commitment and efforts and those of the Moroccan security services in the fight against terrorism.
This is an honorary distinction for elements of the Moroccan national security for their cooperation and sacrifices in the name of regional and local peace.
On the initiative of the Spanish Minister of the Interior, the Spanish government decided to decorate the head of the DGSN with the medal of merit of the Red Cross, and this for the third time, after 2014 and 2019, for the establishment of a model of security cooperation between Morocco and Spain.
