Spain Donates Historic Cervantes Theater in Tangier to Morocco

The grand Cervantes Theater in Tangier has definitively entered the cultural heritage of Morocco. This is the decision made by the Spanish government, meeting on Tuesday in the Council of Ministers.
Spain has approved an agreement for the irrevocable donation of the grand Cervantes Theater in Tangier to Morocco. Under this agreement, the protocol between Spain and Morocco will be submitted to both Houses of the Spanish Parliament for approval, according to the MAP.
The Moroccan government has requested to be responsible for the restoration and management of the theater. In return, the kingdom proposes to become the owner and commits to preserving the Spanish character in the cultural programming of this institution, the same source notes, specifying that this transfer has been materialized by a protocol which, in its form and content, constitutes an international agreement.
The Spanish government recalls that the grand Cervantes Theater in Tangier is one of the most important cultural buildings in the city of the Strait, while emphasizing that it is also a building of great architectural and cultural value that needs to be rehabilitated.
