Morocco Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions as Cases Surge

The Moroccan authorities are returning to firmness, faced with the recent increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases recorded in the Kingdom. Several cafes that do not comply with health precautions, beaches and even neighborhoods with high infection rates are subject to severe restrictions.
In Salé, dozens of vacationers were unable to access the city’s beach on Sunday, August 16. They were prevented from doing so by security barriers placed at the entrance to the beach. The same rigor was applied by the authorities of the province of Skhirat-Témara, which has experienced a small outbreak of Covid-19 cases in recent days due to the relaxation of the population in complying with health precautions. Starting Wednesday, August 19 at 10 a.m., no more access to the beaches.
Sports halls and hammams have also been closed, while cafes and businesses have been forced to close at 9 p.m. starting Tuesday.
It has also been decided to stop the activity of joutias and street vendors at 6 p.m. every day.
Road checkpoints will be set up to reduce travel to cases of extreme necessity. In addition, protective masks will be distributed in the neighborhoods most affected by the virus in the province of Skhirat-Témara.
