Morocco Tightens Control on Butane Gas Supply Amid Shortage Concerns

In order to end the speculation on butane gas during the state of emergency, the transport of the bottles, as well as the control of quality and prices, will be ensured by the local authorities and the police.
To put an end to the speculation observed in the butane gas sector in Morocco due to the health state of emergency, the local and police authorities have decided to take matters into their own hands. Butane gas transport will be provided in some cases under police protection. This, to ensure the supply of butane gas and its derivatives, and especially to avoid any excesses.
The authorities have sensitized merchants to strictly apply the measures taken, in particular the respect of prices and the proper functioning of the supply chain in accordance with the business continuity plan.
Thanks to this decision, the prices of some products have decreased. The previous increases recorded were due to strong demand in high-density areas. The intervention of the authorities has allowed a regular supply of the market with butane gas. The national demand for butane can be met by the available stock. Meetings are organized at the prefecture level for monitoring, in connection with the national strategy to fight coronavirus. The sector has not been spared by all the preventive health, hygiene and safety measures to counter the pandemic.
