Morocco Tightens Border Health Checks for Monkeypox at Ceuta and Melilla

To prevent the entry into Morocco of people affected by monkeypox, exceptional health measures have been taken at the borders of Ceuta and Melilla.
The medical staff on duty at these border posts will now, in addition to studying the health control forms related to Covid-19, have to deal with the control of passengers who may be affected by monkeypox, according to Al Ahdath Al Maghribiya.
These health provisions have been taken in a context of the expansion of the disease worldwide. The Moroccan authorities have called on the medical staff working at the two border posts to be extremely vigilant, especially since positive cases of monkeypox are exploding in Spain, it is noted.
Thus, passengers will have to undergo thermal camera checks, as was the case at the beginning of the appearance of the coronavirus in Morocco. This, pending the implementation of a unified health protocol to deal with this new pandemic. Fever being one of the symptoms of monkeypox, recalls the same source.
On the Moroccan side, the time is not for border closures. The Ministry of Health is rather considering the new restrictive measures to be put in place in the event of positive cases of monkeypox in Ceuta or Melilla. Added to this are the measures to isolate any patients with this infectious disease.
