Morocco Suspends Governor Over Urban Planning Irregularities in Temara

The Ministry of the Interior decided on Monday to suspend the governor of the prefecture of Skhirat-Témara, for irregularities in the management of urban planning in his territory.
This measure follows the results of the preliminary investigation of the General Inspectorate of Territorial Administration, relating to irregularities in the field of urban planning, indicates a press release from the ministry.
In addition to the governor, six authority agents and two administrative executives in the same prefecture have also been suspended. The accused are subject to administrative measures, pending the results of the judicial investigation opened on this subject.
Furthermore, the ministry reaffirmed its unwavering attachment and commitment to respect the law and the strict application of the legal and regulatory procedures in force.
Last week, the city’s technical services were instructed by the authorities to demolish some 600 apartments (34 buildings), after the justice dismissed the developer who had requested the suspension of this operation initially decided by a central commission of the Ministry of the Interior. The newspaper Al Akhbar reported that "certain negligence and anomalies noted in the monitoring of the project implementation motivated the decision to demolish".
