Morocco Stuns Brazil 2-1 in Historic Friendly Win, Building on World Cup Success

The Lions of the Atlas struck a big blow on Saturday evening, on the pitch of the Grand Stadium of Tangier. The national team recorded its first historic victory against one of the greatest football nations in the world, Brazil (2-1). A performance that confirms the new momentum of the Lions of the Atlas, on the rise since their historic run at the World Cup in Qatar.

Facing a Seleção team deprived of its stars, the men of Walid Regragui delivered a high-level performance, showing great technical and tactical mastery throughout the match. From the first half, the Lions of the Atlas took control of the game thanks to a magnificent goal from Sofiane Boufal, author of a clear shot at the edge of the penalty area.

Despite some Brazilian attempts, the Moroccan defense remained solid and well-organized, preventing the Seleção from developing their usual game. The Brazilian equalizer was scored by Casemiro in the 67th minute after a mistake by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

And a quarter of an hour from the end of the match, it was Abdelhamid Sabiri, who came on as a substitute, who gave the victory to his team, by picking up a perfect cross from Hakimi to deceive the Brazilian goalkeeper.

A historic victory, which confirms Morocco’s new status as a world football power. The future looks even brighter for the Lions of the Atlas, who will face the Peruvian team next week in Spain.
