Morocco Shifts to English for Science Education, Phasing Out French

Scientific subjects in Morocco will now be taught in English, the Ministry of Education has announced. This reform is to come into effect within two years.
This decision is part of the gradual adoption of the English language in the teaching of scientific subjects at all levels of primary and secondary school instead of French. This process contained in a seven-year plan will be launched next year.
"The ministry believes that the English language can become the first foreign language within two years," it is announced. Thus, Moroccan public schools will now have to teach the English language starting from the last year of middle school.
According to the new ministry plan, teachers of scientific subjects will have to undergo 6 to 8 hours of training each week.
