Morocco Set to Name Vahid Halilhodzic as New National Soccer Coach

The Bosnian coach, Vahid Halilhodzic, is the likely successor to Hervé Renard. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) would have decided to entrust him with the reins of the Moroccan national football team, after the report of the FRMF Commission in charge of appointing the new coach.
Vahid Halilhodzic, successor to Hervé Renard? This information, long considered a rumor, is about to be confirmed. The latest details regarding this agreement would be in progress. The federation is about to officially announce Halilhodzic’s appointment as coach of the Moroccan team in the coming days.
A well-informed source adds that all the lights are green for the arrival of the FC Nantes coach. The latter just slammed the doors of the French club, just after the friendly match against Genoa. The new selected coach will have to meet the players of the selection in September, during the friendly match against Burkina Faso.
This match between the two selections will serve as the beginning of the preparation of the Atlas Lions for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco finds itself in Group E, with Mauritania, the Central African Republic and Burundi. However, it is exempt from the preliminary rounds of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers (Qatar), given its performance at the 2019 CAN. In other words, 28 of the least ranked selections on the continent will play these rounds. Only 14 teams will be qualified to play the eliminations with the 10 selected teams.
