Morocco Appoints Vahid Halilhodzic as National Soccer Team Coach on 4-Year Contract

After months of suspense, the Franco-Bosnian, Vahid Halihodzic, was finally presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The new coach will have to make people forget the failure of Hervé Renard.
Vahid Halihodzic’s patience has prevailed over his challengers. Many were vying for the position. In the end, he finds himself taking the Moroccan bench. He remains the ideal profile for the position due to his many experiences in the profession. The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaâ, presented him on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the FRMF headquarters in Rabat, as the new coach of the Atlas Lions.
Halilhodzic is thus committed for four seasons, from 2019 to 2023, with the FRMF. The institution’s expectations have not changed for the moment. Halilhodzic will have to ensure qualification for the 2022 World Cup final phase and lead the Atlas Lions to the semi-finals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
On this occasion, the President of the FRMF indicated that this appointment is the culmination of the work of the Commission responsible for appointing the new national coach. He believes he has found the right profile. The new coach of the A-team is very familiar with African football after coaching Raja Athletic Club, Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria, he recalled.
