Morocco: a senior official arrested for corruption (he is in prison)
The president of the Taza Provincial Council was arrested this Monday, April 6 by the judicial police. Suspected of tax fraud and financial misconduct, he was taken into custody along with his two brothers.
The arrest was carried out by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) as part of an investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office. The charges are serious: the elected official is suspected of having created shell companies to cover up illicit transactions. The file also mentions alleged tax evasion and the issuance of bad checks.

Two brothers of the president have also been arrested for their alleged involvement in this case. The suspects were taken into custody in order to further the investigations and define the responsibilities of each. They will be brought before the public prosecutor’s office as soon as the preliminary investigation is closed to determine the legal consequences.
