Morocco Sees Over 2,000 Domestic Workers Registered with Social Security Since New Law

Some 2,228 declarations and 2,574 employment contracts have been registered by the CNSS since last August, the effective date of the law on domestic workers.

These figures were announced by the Minister of Labor, Mohamed Amekraz, as part of a study day dedicated to Law 19-12. Given the increase in these statistics, the implementation of this law in line with international standards is an important legislative step.

This day, according to the minister, comes within the framework of the 2nd anniversary of the entry into force of Law 19.12. He praised the stakeholders of this text, in particular the Parliament and the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH). He also appreciated the contribution of about thirty practitioners from the judiciary and labor inspection. This allowed the development of a practical guide. He also stated that the mechanisms of this guide have favored an optimal implementation of this law.

The Minister of Solidarity, Jamila El Moussali, for her part, stated that this guide with the support of the ILO, shows Morocco’s willingness to promote a participatory approach. The result of this is the enhancement of vulnerable professions to fight against poverty. Moreover, she thinks that we have a cornerstone to strengthen domestic employment and inclusive development. All of this will allow vulnerable segments to integrate into the labor market.

Mohamed Abdennabaoui, Attorney General of the King at the Court of Cassation, welcomed the joint action around Law 19-12, to win the bet in the field of social protection. He also welcomed the implementing decrees which provide greater social protection. He did not fail to point out the importance of judicial specialization in this matter.

Rania Bikhazi, ILO Director for the Arab States, said that this day is part of the "MAP 16" project. Continuing her intervention, she welcomed the dynamics of social protection, recalling the importance of ILO conventions. She did not fail to make a plea regarding protection against child labor abuse, reports La Map.
