Morocco Seeks Friendly Matches to Prepare for 2022 World Cup After CAF Qualifier Changes

After the exclusion of Zimbabwe on Monday by the Confederation of African Football, Morocco finds itself with two opponents to face (South Africa and Liberia) during the group stage of the qualifiers for the 2023 CAN Côte d’Ivoire. The Atlas Lions will take advantage of this to schedule friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup in Qatar.
A few days before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, CAF has decided to exclude Zimbabwe and Kenya from all its activities, due to political interference in the activity of the federations of the two countries. "Following the continued suspension of Kenya and Zimbabwe from all activities by the FIFA Congress, CAF announces that the two associations will not participate in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire," reads a CAF statement.
A difficult decision for these two countries, but favorable for Morocco, which has taken the opportunity to strengthen its preparation program for the World Cup in Qatar by adding two more friendly matches. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has not yet given the names of the two countries that will join the United States on the list of countries that have agreed to play friendly matches against Morocco.
The president of the FRMF, Faouzi Lekjaâ, had mentioned the names of Peru, Brazil, and France, but since then no confirmation has been made about the effective holding of these friendly matches.
