Morocco Seeks Direct Flight Approval for U-17 AFCON Team to Algeria

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is still awaiting the approval of the Algerian authorities for a direct flight from Rabat to Algiers to determine the departure date of the Moroccan under-17 national team, which will participate in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from April 29 to May 19, 2023.

In this context, a member of the federation told "Alyaoum24" that the under-17 national team has not yet traveled and that the situation is not yet clear at the moment.

The FRMF requires the authorization of a direct flight via an aircraft of the national airline Royal Air Maroc, the official carrier of the national teams, so that the Lionceaux of Saïd Chiba can go to Algeria, as was the case for the CHAN.

Faouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF, confirmed last Friday that the Moroccan national team would participate in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Algeria from April 29 to May 19, 2023, without specifying how to get there.

For Lekjaa, the value of the next Africa Cup lies in the fact that it qualifies for the World Cup, adding that participation in the World Cup at this age remains an important step for the players to improve their level and confront other schools at the international level.

The draw for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations placed the Moroccan national under-17 team in Group B with Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia.

The first match of the Moroccan under-17 national team will be against South Africa on Sunday, April 30 at 8 p.m., followed by the one against Nigeria on Wednesday, May 3 at 5 p.m., then Zambia on May 6 at 8 p.m.
