Morocco qualified on Tuesday evening for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, by beating the DR Congo at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca, with a resounding score of (4-1). This match was the return leg of the qualifying playoffs for the World Cup, African zone.
The Atlas Lions have so long hoped for this World Cup qualification and have achieved it in the most beautiful way with a flood of goals, against a team from the DRC that was also determined and performing. But the Moroccan players, revived by the presence of a large contingent of supporters, pulled out all the stops thanks to the goals scored by Azeddine Ounahi (21’ - 54’), Tarik Tissoudali (45+7’), and Achraf Hakimi (69’). The only Congolese goal was scored by Ben Malango (77’).
At the end of these two matches counting for the qualifiers, Morocco finds itself with 5 goals against 2 for the DRC. A huge advantage that allows the Atlas Lions to snatch their 6th qualification of Morocco to a final phase of the World Cup, after 1970 in Mexico, 1986 in Mexico, 1994 in the USA, 1998 in France and 2018 in Russia.
