Morocco Secures $300 Million Investment for Electric Vehicle Battery Plant

Morocco has taken an important step in the development of the electric automotive industry with the signing of an investment agreement for the construction of a cathode production plant.
This project, worth 3 billion dirhams (MMDH), is carried by the Chinese group BTR New Material Group and is part of the national strategy to make Morocco a regional hub for the manufacture of electric batteries.
The factory, with a capacity of 50,000 tons per year, will be located within the Cité Mohammed VI Tanger Tech. Its commissioning is scheduled in two phases: the first, with a capacity of 25,000 tons, will be operational as early as September 2026.
The BTR project is expected to create 2,500 direct jobs and help consolidate Morocco’s position as a leader in the field of electric mobility.
The choice of Morocco by the BTR group is explained by several factors, including the development of the national automotive industrial chain and the geographical advantages of the country.
