Morocco Inks Game-Changing Deal with China Eastern to Boost Tourism, Targets 1 Million Chinese Visitors by 2030

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) wants to increase Chinese tourist influx. In this sense, the ONMT has concluded a strategic agreement with China Eastern Airlines, in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor.

Morocco is intensifying its presence in the Chinese tourism market. On Monday, the CEO of ONMT, Achraf Fayda, and the President of China Eastern Airlines, Wang Zhiqing, signed a strategic agreement in Rabat to increase Chinese tourist influx. This agreement is accompanied by a collaboration program. This includes joint communication actions, targeted public relations operations, the implementation of editorial campaigns, as well as increased coordination of air services between the two countries.

"This partnership is part of our ambition to establish Morocco as an exceptional destination for travelers from around the world. With China Eastern, we are consolidating our foothold in Asia and affirming our diversification strategy," said the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor. The ultimate goal is to welcome one million Chinese visitors by 2030 and make Morocco a continental tourism hub for Asia.

In January 2025, a line between Shanghai and Casablanca, with a stopover in Marseille, was inaugurated. A direct link between the two cities is scheduled to open next October, with three weekly rotations. Casablanca will thus be connected to China’s main source market, in addition to the direct Beijing-Casablanca line operated by Royal Air Maroc. In doing so, Morocco is intensifying its conquest of the Chinese market.
