Morocco’s Romain Saïss Makes Winning Debut for Besiktas in Turkish Süper Lig

After officially signing with Besiktas Istanbul, Romain Saïss, the captain of the Atlas Lions, made his debut in the Süper Lig this weekend with a match played against Kayserispor.
It is with a victory that the Moroccan defender Romain Saïss begins his new adventure in the Turkish championship. Nothing more gratifying for the player who is venturing into unknown territory. For him, the advantage obtained on Saturday, August 6, 2022, against Kayserispor is a precious victory that came in stoppage time thanks to a goal scored by Rachid Ghezzal.
"I can’t say that we were flawless. But winning the first game was very important. We will evaluate our shortcomings in this match, we will improve. It was very important to win. We gained confidence," said Romain Saïss.
After six years spent at Wolverhampton (England), the 32-year-old player has signed with Besiktas Istanbul for two seasons with a third season option. His annual salary is 1.8 million euros per year. The captain of the Atlas Lions could have chosen another club as he had many suitors, but he preferred Besiktas, coached by Frenchman Valérien Ismaël.
