Morocco Reports Over 2,000 COVID-19 Recoveries as Cases Surge in Kenitra Province

Some 2,250 Moroccans have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from Covid-19, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health.

Most of them are asymptomatic people from the Lalla Mimouna cluster in the province of Kenitra, said the acting head of the communication division at the Ministry of Health. According to Jamila Jbili, "the age of people infected with the virus is between 30 and 55 years old" and it is the screening in targeted sectors that has allowed the detection of so many cases, especially in "a context marked by the return to work after the easing of the health lockdown".

Regarding the evolution of the achievements of the laboratories nationwide, Jamila Jbili said that with the early screening strategy, "the laboratories are doing about 20,000 tests every day, for a total of 1,128,190 tests today".

As for the sudden increase in confirmed cases in the city of Tangier and the many reported deaths, she said that the Minister of Health is aware of the situation, and is working in collaboration with all the stakeholders involved to reverse the trend. This is why "the ministry has strengthened its health offer at the regional level with the provision of new medical and technical equipment for all hospitals", reports the MAP.

According to the same source, the acting head of communication indicated that from this week, "a part of the weekly declaration will be devoted to answering citizens’ questions via the WhatsApp application". This involves sending short videos or audios lasting no more than 40 seconds to the number "0761855020".
