Morocco’s Health Ministry Ramps Up Testing Capacity, Prepares for Lockdown Easing

The director of the Department of Planning and Financial Resources, Abdelouahab Belmadani, announced last Friday that the Ministry of Health is fully prepared for the lifting of confinement and the state of health emergency.
According to the official’s statements, the country has exceeded the threshold of 10,000 screening tests, initially set by the ministry, by carrying out 13,000 analyzes per day.
These performances, which will allow for wide coverage of the population, have been achieved thanks to massive investment in Sars-Cov2 detection equipment and devices.
In this context, the ministerial official stressed the purchase of 23 scanners, 40 mobile X-ray devices, and the equipment of 15 mobile laboratories. The ministry has also worked to provide 1,200,000 PCR screening tests, 2 million serological tests and 1,100 kilograms of chloroquine in addition to 6 million hydroxychloroquine tablets.
Regarding expenditure, the ministry has allocated 500 million dirhams to medicines, equipment and screening tests, and 300 million to medical equipment. In total, 40% of the budget allocated by the Covid-19 special fund has been spent by the ministry, or 800 million dirhams.
