Morocco Reports Nearly 400 Child COVID-19 Cases, Including One Fatality

Covid-19 also affects children and can also be fatal to them. Since the start of the epidemic in Morocco, nearly 400 children have been affected by the virus, including one death.

The official figures were published on Saturday, May 2 during a webinar by Prof. Mohamed Bouskraoui, President of the Somipev (Moroccan Society of Pediatric Infectiology and Vaccinology).

According to the pediatrician’s statistics and also Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Marrakech, these infected children represent 9.2% of all cases nationwide. To date, only one death has been deplored. It is a baby who was being followed for kidney failure.

According to the same source, Covid-19 in children has been closely studied since the start of the pandemic, in several countries, including Morocco. With these 391 contaminations, 84% of the cases are concentrated in 5 regions:

The Drâa Tafilalet region remains the most affected with 13.7%. In addition, 93.4% of cases are asymptomatic or mild and only 1.3% are considered severe.

Furthermore, the 10-14 age group is the most affected with 46.3% of cases.

As for the predominant clinical signs at the time of consultation, among the symptomatic, there is cough (76%) and fever (62%).
