COVID-19 Outbreak Among Mediterranean Migrants: 65 Test Positive in Malta

Among the 94 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean by the Maltese coast guard, more than two-thirds, including Moroccans, tested positive for the coronavirus.
Tested upon arrival, 65 migrants were declared positive for Covid-19, while 20 tested negative. The 9 others will be informed later about their status. They will be placed in a 14-day quarantine in a reception center.
"The migrants who tested positive will remain isolated and the others in quarantine and monitored," the Ministry of Health said.
Mostly from Eritrea, Morocco and Sudan, these migrants, coming from Libya, were rescued after the shipwreck of the boat that was transporting them.
In total, 99 positive cases have been detected in Malta since March 7, the date on which the first case of Covid-19 was recorded.
