Morocco Reports $380 Million in Purchases from Israel, While Israel Reports Only $116 Million

But in UN Comtrade, Israel reports only $115.75 million in exports to Morocco. The amount recorded by Rabat is therefore 3.29 times higher than the figure reported by Israel. The contrast thus appears directly in the national declarations submitted to the same database.

$332 million without public details

Most of the gap is concentrated in one line: $332.73 million, or 87.4% of Moroccan imports attributed to Israel, are classified under “miscellaneous manufactured articles.” The other categories are far behind: $10.23 million for machinery, $9.26 million for certain chemical products, $7.69 million for inorganic chemicals, and $5.01 million for optical, technical, or medical instruments.

Yet the page detailing this category does not make it possible to identify the goods concerned. For 2025, it shows only a $94 subheading corresponding to brooms and brushes, without explaining the hundreds of millions recorded at the higher level.

This lack of detail does not necessarily mean that there is an anomaly. UN Comtrade specifies that countries may conceal certain trade information for confidentiality reasons while retaining the amounts in totals or aggregated categories.

Morocco’s methodological questionnaire to the United Nations also indicates that Rabat applies “passive” confidentiality, may retain the partner country at an aggregated level, and includes goods intended for military use in its trade statistics.

This does not, however, make it possible to assert that the $332.73 million corresponds to Israeli weapons or military equipment. No document consulted links this amount to specific defense contracts.

The United Nations also recalls that the “mirror” statistics of two partners may diverge: a different country of origin or shipment, transit through a third country, timing differences, customs warehouses, classifications, or confidentiality. Imports also generally include transport and insurance, unlike exports.
