In six months, the United Kingdom sold Morocco more goods than it did throughout all of 2025

The latest data published on August 13 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show a spectacular acceleration. The United Kingdom had sold £745 million worth of goods to Morocco in the first half of 2025. A year later, the amount had almost tripled, rising by approximately 189%.

The movement accelerated particularly sharply in the second quarter: £1.295 billion in exports between April and June, compared with just £367 million a year earlier.

May and June alone accounted for £1.16 billion worth of British goods shipped to Morocco, with £581 million and £579 million respectively. In just two months, London thus sold the Kingdom almost as much as during the whole of 2024, when its exports reached £1.292 billion.

The trade balance completely reverses

The latest detailed breakdown published by the British government shows that, over the four quarters ending in late March 2026, crude oil was the leading British export to Morocco, at £630.6 million. It was followed by ores and metal waste, generators and mechanical equipment, refined petroleum products and cars.

However, these data do not yet make it possible to identify with certainty the product responsible for the exceptional surge recorded in May and June.

The reversal in the trade balance is itself spectacular. In the first half of 2025, the United Kingdom had sold £745 million to Morocco and bought £859 million worth of Moroccan goods. The balance therefore favoured Morocco by approximately £114 million.

A year later, London is selling £2.153 billion to Morocco, while its purchases of Moroccan products have reached £952 million. The United Kingdom now has a surplus of approximately £1.2 billion.

In twelve months, trade in goods between the two countries thus shifted from a slight advantage for Morocco to a massive imbalance in favour of the United Kingdom.
