Morocco Reports No COVID-19 Cases in Prisons, Officials Await Final Results

The results of the analyzes carried out for the samples of prisoners and officials from the 53 penitentiary institutions in connection with the new coronavirus (covid-19) were negative, said Saturday, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR)

In a press release on the evolution of the health status of officials and inmates of penitentiary institutions in connection with the new coronavirus, the DGAPR noted that the partial results of nine penitentiary institutions were also negative, pending those of ten other penitentiary institutions.

The delegation also clarified the case of the four officials suspected of being infected with the coronavirus. The second result of these officials, one of whom works at the local prison in Oujda, two at the local prison in Salé 2 and the fourth at the local prison in Tétouan, was also negative.

Reacting to the subject of two positive cases of covid-19 recorded among officials of the local prison of Tanger 1 out of a total of 7 officials who underwent the analyzes, the DGPAR specified that these officials were subjected to a second test to confirm their first result.

As for the three positive cases recorded in the local prison of Tanger, 1 out of a total of 10 inmates who underwent the analyzes, and 1 case at the local prison Ras El Ma and the local prison Bourkayez in Fès, they have also been subjected to a second test to confirm the first results.
