Morocco Prison Officials Suspended After COVID-19 Protection Request

The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) affirmed, on Monday, May 11, 2020, that the suspension of two officials at the local prison in Tangier was made in accordance with the legal and regulatory procedures in force.
Reacting to information published by some electronic sites on "the suspension, by the director of the local prison in Tangier, of two officials who asked to be protected against the new coronavirus, as well as the freezing of their salaries", the DGAPR said that the files of the two officials concerned will be submitted to the disciplinary council. It also specified that the suspension decision comes from the president of the administration and not from the director of the penitentiary establishment.
The decision comes following administrative offenses committed by these officials and which relate to non-compliance with the statutes and laws in force in this sector, in particular those provided for by the special status of DGAPR officials, the Code of Ethics and professional duties, continues the same source.
The DGAPR also recalled that these regulations require officials to be disciplined, to respect the hierarchical authority and to comply with the rules of the paramilitary regime. They are also prohibited from taking any action or behavior, or from disseminating anything that would undermine the security of penitentiary establishments or the dignity of the function or the administration.
