Morocco Reportedly Acquires Advanced Israeli Suicide Drones for Military Arsenal

Tuesday 20 June 2023, by Prince

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of Morocco would have received a batch of SpyX suicide drones developed by the Israeli company BlueBird Aero System.

This acquisition aims to "strengthen the artillery and infantry arsenal of the FAR", indicated on Monday the specialized forum FAR Maroc on its Facebook page. The SpyX drone, according to its manufacturer, is a "precise", "advanced" and "easily deployable by a small team" drone. 2 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, this suicide drone has an operational range of up to 50 kilometers and runs on electric power, it is pointed out.

The SpyX can reach a maximum flight speed of 150 km/h, which can reach 250 km/h in attack mode, allowing it to hit its targets, static or moving, with precision. The drone also has an "endurance of up to 1 and a half hours" and can support explosive loads of a maximum weight of 2.5 kilograms.

Combined with the Vtol, another reconnaissance drone, SpyX offers its user "superiority", specifies its Israeli manufacturer, adding that the drone also offers "the possibility of canceling an attack at the last minute, thus allowing to avoid possible civilian casualties".

The purchase of this drone comes to strengthen the military cooperation between Morocco and Israel, since the resumption of their diplomatic relations in December 2020. The kingdom has already acquired several Israeli drones and defense systems and senior officials of the two countries are multiplying visits to Rabat and Tel Aviv.
