Morocco’s Military Leap: SpyX Drones Revolutionize Combat Capabilities
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have acquired the kamikaze drone SpyX from the Israeli company Bluebird Aero Systems. The device was recently tested successfully, revealing the growing power of the Moroccan army.
A recent video confirms the successful integration of the SpyX within the Moroccan army. The system was tested north of Boujdour, if we go by the geographical coordinates visible in the video. The kamikaze drone was used during a combat simulation exercise with an M60 tank, an AMX radar vehicle, and a Ratel troop transport. "The drones manage to hit their targets very precisely" at a maximum range of 50 kilometers, analyzes military consultant Abdelhamid Harifi for Médias24, specifying that these devices are capable of piercing modern defenses such as anti-drone cages.
The acquisition of the SpyX, which proves strategic due to the 50 km range of this drone and its "very significant explosive charge", comes to reinforce the FAR which already have conventional artillery with a range limited to about 20-25 km, multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) capable of reaching their target up to 110-130 km, and observation drones with a too low carrying capacity (explosive charge). The Israeli drone is not reserved for elite units. Its "standardized" launchers, compatible with infantry vehicles, can be deployed on the ground by "infantry, armored units or artillery".
With an estimated unit cost between $50,000 and $60,000, the SpyX is a formidable drone and much cheaper than an anti-tank missile like the TOW. "It is an effective and less expensive equipment that meets our needs," analyzes the consultant. The Israeli drone is not a strategic long-range deterrent weapon, like the Israeli "Harpy" or Iranian "Shahed" (1,000 km range) drones. The SpyX is designed to be "deployable on the ground with units already engaged". "If we use the SpyX against a radar vehicle, it can blind an entire anti-aircraft defense battery," details Abdelhamid Harifi.
